Function
- inhibits primary neurogenesis
- may be required to divert neurons along a specific differentiation pathway
- plays a role in formation of somite boundaries during segmentation of the paraxial mesoderm (putative)
- ubiquitinated by MIB (MIB1 or MIB2), leading to its endocytosis & subsequent degradation (putative)
- can bind & activate notch-1 or another notch receptor
Structure
- DSL domain is required for binding to notch receptor
- contains 1 DSL domain
- contains 6 EGF-like domains
Compartment
- membrane; single-pass type 1 membrane protein (probable)
Pathology
- defects in DLL3 are the cause of spondylocostal dysostosis type 1
