Function
- negatively regulates leptin receptor (LEPR) cell surface expression, & thus decreases response to leptin
- negatively regulates growth hormone receptor cell surface expression in liver
- may play a role in liver resistance to growth hormone during periods of reduced nutrient availability
- interacts with LEPR (putative)
Structure
- belongs to the OB-RGRP/VPS55 family
Compartment
Expression
- expressed at the highest levels in heart & placenta
- lesser expression in lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney & pancreas
Notes
- protein is encoded by LEPR gene, but shares with LEPR only the 1st two 5'-UTR exons
- this it does not share any sequence similarity with LEPR
