• thought to be important determinant of plasma triglycerides
• stimulates of apo-CII lipoprotein lipase
• inhibits of the hepatic VLDL-triglyceride production
• activates poorly lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT)
• phosphorylation sites are present in plasma
• interacts with GPIHBP1

• 3 common alleles are known: allele APOA5*1, APOA5*2 & APOA5*3.
