• isoform 1 may enhance the activation of some unmethylated cAMP-responsive promoters
• reports about DNA demethylase activity of isoform 2 are contradictory
• heterodimer with MBD3
• part of the MeCP1 complex
• isoform 1 binds DHX9
• isoform 2 does not bind DHX9
