- executes initial step of microRNA (miRNA) processing in nucleus, cleavage of pri-miRNA to release pre-miRNA
- role in pre-rRNA processing
- cleaves double-strand RNA but does not cleave single-strand RNA
- endonucleolytic cleavage to 5'-phosphomonoester.
- interacts with Sp1
