• executes initial step of microRNA (miRNA) processing in nucleus, cleavage of pri-miRNA to release pre-miRNA
• role in pre-rRNA processing
• cleaves double-strand RNA but does not cleave single-strand RNA
• endonucleolytic cleavage to 5'-phosphomonoester.
• interacts with Sp1

• contains 1 DRBM domain (double-stranded RNA-binding domain) contains 2 RNase-3 domains
