Introduction
Cardiac rhythm initiated from spontaneous depolarization from with in AV node.
Etiology
- myocardial ischemia or infarction
- hypokalemia
- AV node blocking agents
Clinical manifestations
depend upon rate & underlying condition
Diagnostic procedures
- electrocardiogram:
- narrow complex
- regular rhythm @ 30-60/min
- p-waves may be present (PR interval < 0.12 sec), absent or retrograde
Management
- correction of underlying etiology
- cardiac pacing
- temporary if unstable
- permanent pacing may be necessary
