Etiology

• association with renal tubular acidosis (RTA) IV

Epidemiology

• occurs in middle-aged to elderly patients with mild to moderate renal insufficiency
• half of patients are diabetic

Laboratory

• renin & aldosterone secretion stimulated by salt deprivation or furosemide administration is are blunted

Management

• fludrocortisone
