Introduction
The presence of myoglobin in the urine
Etiology
- generally secondary to rhabdomyolysis
Genetics
- defects in LDHA are a cause of exertional myoglobinuria
Laboratory
- urine color: tea-to-red-brown
- supernatant clear when centrifuged
- myoglobin in urine
- serum creatine kinase elevated
Differential diagnosis
- hemoglobinuria (urine color: pink to red)
