Introduction
Shock & renal failure following soft tissue injury.
Etiology
Clinical manifestations
- signs of injury
- shock
- oliguria
- pain
- somnolence
- thirst
- nausea
Laboratory
- increased serum markers of muscle injury
- increased serum urea nitrogen
- serum K+: hyperkalemia
- serum Na+: hyponatremia
- urine myoglobin: myoglobinuria*
* serum creatinine kinase (> 5x upper limit of normal) for diagnosis[2]
* urine myoglobin for management (see rhabdomyolysis)[3]
