Etiology
- tumor
- Alzheimer's disease
- infarction in the distribution of the posterior cerebral artery
- Herpes simplex encephalitis
Pathology
- deep temporal lobe lesions involving parahippocampal &/or hippocampal gyrus
Clinical manifestations
- inability to recall names of objects or parts of objects
- difficulty in recent memory
- associated manifestations
- apraxia
- dementia
- no sensory abnormalities
- upper quadrantic visual field defect
- fluency: normal
- auditory comprehension: relatively normal
- repetition: normal
- reading comprehension: normal or abnormal
- writing: normal or abnormal
