Etiology

• NSAIDs
• H pylori
• Strongyloides stercoralis
• Crohn's disease
• sprue: celiac disease
• chemotherapy
• radiation therapy
• alcohol, tobacco & other ingested poisons
• bile acid reflux
• duodenal trauma or surgery

Clinical manifestations

• flatulence
• indigestion.
• iron deficiency anemia
• nausea/vomiting
• upper abdomenal pain :

Management

• depends upon etiology
• antacids
• treatment of H pylori &/or Strongyloides stercoralis
• treatment of sprue
• treatment of Crohn's disease
