Introduction
9 month treatment, blind initially
- risperidone
- olanzapine
- quitiapine
- citalopram
Protocol mimics routine clinical care
Outcomes:
- CGI, BPRS, NPI, Cornell depression
- ADLs, life quality, caregiver burden, service utilization
- AE, EPS, laboratory testing
- cognition
Results:
- somewhat greater effectiveness of olanzapine counterbalanced by lower tolerability
- < 1/2 of patients were compliant with antipsychotic agent
