Pathology

• fungus not invasive

Clinical manifestations

• generally unilateral
• scaling
• itching
• pain
• otoscopy:
  • whitish debris in the external auditory canal
  • inflammation of the external auditory canal
  • tympanic membrane not retracted

Laboratory

• fungal mycelia seen in cerumen & desquamated cells of the external auditory canal

Management

• hygiene:
  • ear irrigation
  • ear wax removal
• Swim Ear or AuroDri to keep ear clean, dry
