Introduction
The short constricted portion of the femur adjacent to the femoral head, separating the greater trochanter from the femoral head.
Pathology
- women with wide femoral necks experience greater bone loss during early menopause[2] suggesting these women may be at higher risk of femoral neck fracture[2]
Physiology
- women with narrow femoral neck widths have proportionately thicker bone cortex but similar bone-mineral density measured DEXA than do women with wider femoral necks[2]
