Etiology
- thyroxine plasma membrane transport defect[1]
- thyroid hormone resistance[2]
- increased thyroid-binding globulin (TBG) caused by:
- familial dysalbuminemia
- dystransthyretinemic hyperthyroxinemia
- increased T4 binding to transthyretin
- anti T4 antibodies
