Pathology

• dementia is more likely & likely to be more severe when vascular lesions coexist with the neurofibrillary tangles & amyloid plaques of Alzheimer's disease

Management

• cholinesterase inhibitors may be of modest clinical benefit
• memantine may be of modest clinical benefit
• cardiovascular risk control
  • hypertension
  • dyslipidemia
