- nasal turbinate hypertrophy
- nasal drainage
- chronic sinusitis
- long palate
- tonsil size not a risk factor
- opiates (central sleep apnea)[4]

- polysomnography may show hypopnea or apnea
Complications
- elevated systolic blood pressure
- increased risk of cognitive impairment or dementia[2]
- increased risk of ischemic stroke & impairment of stroke recovery[5]
- may be associated with accelerated aging[6]
