Introduction
The urinary system undergoes change with aging.
Physiology
- decreased bladder capacity (from 600 mL to NOT < 300 mL)
- increased urine residual volume (PVR NOT > 50 mL)
- occasional involuntary detrusor muscle contractions
- decreased urinary flow rate
- prostate enlargement in men
- decreased prostatic secretions
- decreased Tamm-Horsfall protein
