Epidemiology
- associated with Lyme disease
- associated AHDD or autism (children)
Pathology
- peripheral nervous system affected
- central nervous system affected
Clinical manifestations
- non-healing skin lesions, may be highly unusual
- fiber-like strands extruding from the skin
- various dermatologic & neuropsychiatric symptoms
- crawling, stinging, biting, sensations
- extreme difficulty with mental concentration & short-term memory
- mood disorders are common (50%)
Differential diagnosis
- delusional parasitic infection
Management
- responds to antibacterial agents (see Lyme disease)
