Epidemiology

common in the elderly

Genetics

  • associated with defects in CSNK1D
  • associated with defecs in PER2

Clinical manifestations

  • persistent early onset of sleep (8-9 PM)
  • early morning awakening (3-5 AM)
  • individuals are 'morning larks' with a 4 hours advance of the sleep, temperature & melatonin rhythms
