Diagnostic procedures
- higher lung volumes than occur in patients with pulmonary fibrosis alone
- FEV1/FVC ratio in patients may be preserved
- severe reduction in DLCO
- hypoxemia (SaO2 of 88% on room air)[1]
- pulmonary hypertension
* likelihood is much higher than COPD or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis alone & prognosis is worse
Radiology
- high-resolution computed tomography
- emphysematous changes in the upper lobes with fibrotic changes in the lower lobes
Management
- lung transplantation is the only curative therapy[1]
