Etiology
- Streptococcus pneumoniae is the most common cause
Management
- if facility has low rate of resistant organisms, no need to cover MRSA
- broad spectrum coverage for gram-negative bacteria indicated for COPD
- levofloxacin rather than ceftriaxone or cefipime if patient to be treated in nursing home*[2] *
* it is unclear whether or not this applies only to patients with COPD
