corneal dendrite

Etiology

• corneal dendrites are due to Herpes simplex ophthalmicus

Diagnostic procedures

• ophthalmoscopy
  • examination of the cornea under blue light after fluoroscein staining
    • dendrites with corneal ulceration

Differential diagnosis

• corneal pseudodendrite due to Herpes zoster ophthalmicus
  • yellow pseudodendrites have a branching appearance & appear stuck on without associated corneal ulceration
