major depression with psychosis; psychotic/delusional depression

Etiology
- may be manifestation of major depression following stroke
- may occur in patients with illness anxiety disorder
Clinical manifestations
- combination of depression & psychosis
- psychosis often manifests as belief bad things are going to happen
Management
- treatment with both antidepressant & antipsychotic if early in the course of disease
- hospitalize for electroconvulsive therapy if resistant depression, or urgency due to rapid deterioration (substantial weight loss, frailty, agitation)
