odevixibat (Bylvay)

Indications

• treatment of pruritus in progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis

Dosage

• 40 ug/kg qAM
• after 3 months may increase in increments of 40 ug/kg/day up to 120 ug/kg/day if no improvement in pruritus
• maximum 6mg/day

Capsules: 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 1.2 mg

Monitor

• baseline & during treatment
  • liver function tests (eg, ALT, AST, total bilirubin, & direct bilirubin
  • serum fat-soluble vitamins levels
  • INR

Adverse effects

• diarrhea, including bloody diarrhea, hepatomegaly

Mechanism of action

• selective inhibitor of the ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT)
