Indications

• artificial sweetener
• chronic idiopathic constipation

Dosage

• 20 grams PO QD with meal
• reduce sode to 10 gram QD for loose stools

* separate other oral medications by 2 hours (before or after lactitol)

* dose packs 10 grams

Adverse effects

• flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal distendion,
• increased serum CPK, increased blood pressure

Mechanism of action

• osmotic laxative
• causes an influx of water into the small intestine

Notes

• 40% of the sweetness of sucrose
