Etiology
Clinical manifestations
- severe knee pain
Radiology
- anteroposterior radiographs of the knee
Complications
- damage to the popliteal artery, which can result in ischemia
- disruption of the anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament & medial collateral ligaments
- peroneal nerve injury
Differential diagnosis
- patella dislocation
- patients often able to correct dislocation themselves
Management
- reduction of knee dislocation with conscious sedation (ketamine)
- external fixation of the knee
- repair of the knee ligaments*
