Indications
- detection of H pylori (adults & children > 3 years of age)
Clinical significance
- C-14 breath test for diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori.
Interferences
- medications that interfere with test
- antibiotics & bismuth compounds, discontinue for 30 days
- proton pump inhibitors, discontinue for 7 days
- sucralfate
- histamine H2 receptor antagonists, discontinue for 1 day
- antacids, discontinue for 1 day
