Etiology
- blunt trauma
- extravasation of urine is common with severe blunt trauma
- spontaneous occurs in most cases
- urinoma formation occurs uncommonly
- ureteral obstruction due to
Pathology
- urine collection in perirenal fat as a result of leakage from the renal pelvis of renal calices
- an inflammatory response with lipolysis results in fibrous encapsulation
Clinical manifestations
- gradual progression
- pain & pressure depend on size & location
Laboratory
Diagnostic procedures
- image-guided percutaneous needle aspiration is both diagnostic & therapeutic
Radiology
Complications
- abscess formation
- peritonitis
- sepsis
- fibrosis
- granuloma formation
Management
- drainage with CT or ultrasound guidance
- treatment of urinary obstruction
