Lybrel (ethinyl estradiol, levonorgestrel)

Indications

• oral contraceptive (no scheduled periods) possibly a lower incidence of PMS, headaches, & anemia

Dosage

1 pill QD for 1 year or longer

ethinyl estradiol 20 mcg

levonorgestrel 90 mcg

Adverse effects

• possibly a lower incidence of PMS, headaches, & anemia
• breakthrough bleeding (50% during 1st 3 months) diminishes with continued use
• otherwise adverse effects similar to other oral contraceptives

• drug adverse effects of estrogens
