Indications
- H pylori infection
Contraindications
- not routinely indicated for GERD
Procedure
ELISA: detects IgG or IgA antibodies to H pylori
Sensitivity: 90-100%
Specificity: 76-96%
Accuracy: 83-98%
Testing may be less specific in the elderly.[2]
Post eradication:
- at 3 months H pylori titers decrease by 50%
- at 18 months, 60% of patients have undetectable H pylori antibodies
Notes
- not affected by recent gastrointestinal bleeding or the use of proton pump inhibitors[3]
