Pathology
- lymphohistiocytic infiltrate with multinucleated giant cells
- surrounding solar elastosis
- no palisading, necrobiosis, or mucin deposition
- fragmentation of the elastic fibers
- occasional elastophagocytosis by giant cells
Clinical manifestations
- affects sun-exposed skin
- asymptomatic skin lesions on forehead & dorsum of hands[1]
- well demarcated, erythematous, coalescing annular plaques with raised borders & slightly hypopigmented atrophic center
- lesions slowly expand centrifugally (images)[1]
Management
- reduce sun exposure
- use sunscreen
- topical glucocorticoids
- pimecrolimus cream may be used on face
