Introduction
inferomedial, superomedial, & superolateral genicular nerves
Origin
- the origin of the superomedial & superolateral genicular nerves (from the sciatic nerve or from the femoral nerve) is controversial[1]
- the origin of the inferolateral genicular nerve is from the common peroneal nerve
- the origin of the inferomedial genicular nerve is from the tibial nerve
- interindividual variability explains the discrepancy in the literature over nomenclature & origin of the genicular nerves
Clinical significance
Mechanism of action
- local anesthetic spread next to the genicular arteries or at the junction of the epiphysis & diaphysis of the femur & tibia
