Radiology
- transrectal ultrasonography
- deterioration after initiation of antibiotic therapy for acute prostatitis[1]
- magnetic resonance imaging is the preferred confirmatory imaging modality
Management
- empiric therapy with 3rd-generation cephalosporin, aztreonam or antibiotic combinations
- 80% of patients require early surgical drainage
- transurethral approach frequently used
