depressed patients with Parkinson's disease & patients with major depression have similar regional cerebral blood flow, assessed by SPECT
frontal-limbic networks are involved
non-depressed patients with Parkinson's disease have lesser activity in the right frontal cortex
1.1% of patients with depression will develop Parkinson's disease (PD) vs 0.4% of patients without depression^[4]
- depression may be a very early symptom of PD or a risk factor^[4]
