Indications
Procedure
- 1 year stepped collaborative care program
- care provided by nurse or psychologist working in support of primary care provider
- nurse or psychologics is supervised in weekly sessions with geriatrician & psychiatrist to monitor patient progress
Management
- antidepressants
- problem solving psychotherapy for 6-8 weeks
Notes
- increases rates of treatment
- reduces symptoms of depression
- reduces functional impairment
- improves quality of life
- improves patient satisfaction
- lowers total healthcare costs
