Introduction
A membrane of granulation tissue covering a normal surface. It may take the form of:
- inflammatory synovial tissue found in rheumatoid joints that covers the articular cartilage
- the pannus progressively destroys the underlying cartilage
- membranes found in other granulomatous diseases
- the cornea in trachoma
