• 0.225% of population

Pathology

• incomplete posterior vitreous detachment
• persistently adherent vitreous exerting tractional pull on the macula
• morphologic alterations
• visual impairment

Clinical manifestations

• Onset & progression generally gradual
• blurred vision
• metamorphopsia
• micropsia
• scotoma
• difficulty reading

Diagnostic procedures

• optical coherence tomography Manaqement:
• vitreolysis with ocriplasmin
• eye surgery
  • surgical release of vitreous attachment & resolution of both anteroposterior & tangential traction by means of pars plana vitrectomy combined with epiretinal membrane peeling
