macula retinae, macula lutea, macula, area centralis or punctum luteum

Introduction

An oval area of the sensory retina, 3 X 5 mm, temporal to the optic disk corresponding to the posterior pole of the eye.

At its center is the fovea centralis, which contains only retinal cones.

Cone density in the macula is 150,000/mm3 (fovea centralis or macula in general?)[2].
