Intermediate-acting insulin (see insulin parenteral). Longer-acting than regular insulin.
Dosage
- generally QHS dosing
- also used in combination with regular insulin
Pharmacokinetics
- onset 1-3 hours
- peak 4-10 hours
- duration 10-18 hours
Notes
- hypoglycemia & glycemic control no better with detemir or glargine than with neutral protamine Hagedorn insulin[2]
