atherectomy

Indications

• atherosclerosis with significant obstruction of arterial lumen
  • peripheral arterial disease

Contraindications

• carotid atherectomy has not been adequately studied [NEKM Knowledge+]

Procedure

• excision/removal of atheroma from arterial wall (open vs percutaneous)
• transluminal atherectomy per CPT & refs [1-3]
  • renal artery
  • abdominal aorta
  • brachiocephalic trunk
  • iliac artery
  • visceral artery (inferior mesenteric artery)
  • coronary artery
  • carotid artery
