Indications
Clinical significance
- virus DNA level predicts risk of hepatocellular carcinoma
- > 100,000 copies/mL threshold for treatment
Specimen
- whole blood (ACD or EDTA)
- liver
- store body fluids at 4 degrees C
- store tissue at -20 degrees C or below
Notes
- molecular testing is more sensitive than serology
- quantitative HBV DNA is useful for monitoring response to therapy
