Introduction
bone neoplasm of the mandible
Etiology
- associated with bruxism
Epidemiology
- less common than torus palatinus
- more common in Asian & Inuit populations
- slightly more common in males than females
- prevalence is 7-10% in the United States
- prevalence is similar in blacks & whites
Pathology
- bony growth in the mandible along the surface nearest to the tongue
- usually present near the premolars, above the location of mylohyoid attachment
- 90% are bilateral
- size of the tori may fluctuate throughout life
Management
- generally no treatment is necessary
- oral surgery
