mylohyoid (diaphragma oris)

Introduction

Muscle of the floor of the mouth.

Origin

mylohyoid line of the mandible

Insertion

upper border of the hyoid bone & adjacent raphe

Action

• elevates floor of mouth & the tongue
• depresses jow when the hyoid is fixed

Innervation

• nerve to the mylohyoid from the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (CN V)
