Etiology
Epidemiology
- 4% of pregnancies
Pathology
- compression of the fetal abdomen limiting movement of the diaphragm
- pulmonary hypoplasia
- fetal heart conduction abnormalities
- umbilical cord compression
- poor tolerance of labor
- fetal acidosis
Physical examination
- check blood pressure
Clinical manifestations
- meconium staining of the amniotic fluid
- lower Apgar scores
Laboratory
- antinuclear antibody screen for SLE
- liver function tests
- complete blood count
- low platelet count (HELLP syndrome)
- urine protein for proteinuria
- serum uric acid for elevation
