Function
- dual-specificity transcription factor
- regulaties expression of both MAX-network & T-box family target genes
- functions as a repressor or an activator
- binds to 5'-AATTTCACACCTAGGTGTGAAATT-3' core sequence & seems to regulate MYC-MAX target genes
- suppresses transcriptional activation by MYC & inhibits MYC-dependent cell transformation
- function activated by heterodimerization with MAX
- heterodimerization serves the dual function of both generating an E-box-binding heterodimer & simultaneously blocking interaction of a corepressor
- interacts with MAX
- requires dimerization with MAX for E-box binding (putative)
Structure
- transcription repression is enhanced or dependent on the presence of the T-box DNA-binding domain (putative)
- contains 1 basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain
- contains 1 T-box DNA-binding domain
Compartment
nucleus (probable)
