Drug interactions
- ACE inhibitors increase prostaglandins that cause vasodilation; NSAIDs inhibit cyclooxygenase, thus formation of prostaglandins
- prostaglandins act on afferent glomerular arterioles, ACE inhibitors act on efferent glomerular arterioles
- increased risk of hyperkalemia
- NSAIDs may interfere with antihypertensive effects of ACE inhibitors
- when combined with diuretic, further increases risk of acute renal failure[2]
Management
- 81 mg of aspirin recommended for use in combination with ACE inhibitor, when both are indicated.
