Function

• blood supply to the neurosensory receptors in the cochlea
• it supplies blood & energy for the endocochlear potential
• it is the source of electrical polarization within the cochlea

Structure

• outer boundary of the cochlear scala media

Pathology

• some loss of stria vascularis tissue occurs with aging
• atrophy of the stria vascularis restricts blood supply to neurosensory receptors, leading to symptoms of presbycusis
