Function
- blood supply to the neurosensory receptors in the cochlea
- it supplies blood & energy for the endocochlear potential
- it is the source of electrical polarization within the cochlea
Structure
- outer boundary of the cochlear scala media
Pathology
- some loss of stria vascularis tissue occurs with aging
- atrophy of the stria vascularis restricts blood supply to neurosensory receptors, leading to symptoms of presbycusis
