Introduction

The largest & most mobile part, ca. 45 cm long. Lies between the right & left colic flexures, where it bends inferiorly to become the descending colon.

  • may extend somewhat transversely across the abdomen, but more often sags centrally, frequently to subumbilical levels
  • in tall thin people, the colon may dip into the pelvis .
