left colic flexure (splenic flexure)

Introduction

The bend at the junction of the transverse & descending colon.

• usually more superior, more acute & less mobile than the right colic flexure
• lies anterior to the inferior part of the left kidney
• attaches to the diaphragm through the phrenicocolic ligament.
